John Eustace has been sacked by Birmingham after 15 months in charge.
The 43-year-old was appointed as Blues head coach in July 2022 and oversaw 21 wins in his 63 games in charge, the last of which came on Friday night in the West Midlands derby against West Brom. A statement released on the club's official website on Monday morning said: 'It is essential that the board of directors and the football management are fully aligned on the importance of implementing a winning mentality and a culture of ambition across the entire football club.
' Reports have surfaced suggesting Wayne Rooney is in the frame to replace Eustace following his mutually-agreed exit from MLS outfit DC United. Speaking after his departure, Rooney said: 'It's the right time. I've done everything I can to get this club into the play-offs. It's not a single thing that's happened. It's about timing.' The links have intensified after Rooney's son Kai began following Birmingham and several players on Instagram.
