The strike action could past up to two weeks
Disruption is being caused to bin collections in parts of Nottinghamshire as a strike by more than 50 Veolia workers begins. Staff at the firm, which manages waste disposals across Nottinghamshire, began their strike action on Monday and it could last for up to two weeks.
The authority said: "Some bin collections have been made today across the district however, due to the Veolia industrial action, it is taking longer than usual for us to dispose of waste. If your bin has not been emptied today please leave it out and we will attempt to return."In a statement marking the start of strike action, Ashfield District Council said: "Veolia are working to ensure their sites remain open for waste collection vehicles to dispose of household and trade waste.
Veolia operates a network of recycling centres across Nottinghamshire under a contract with the county council, though it is the district and borough councils which are actually responsible for collections. Only staff working at the facilities in Mansfield, Kirkby and Worksop are set to walk out.
