Billy Joel returned to the stage for the first time since revealing his brain disorder diagnosis, performing a surprise two-song set.
The Piano Man was on hand as the town of Wellington, Florida — near where Joel owns property — celebrated its 30th anniversary Friday. The Joel cover band Turnstiles was booked to perform at the celebration, and Joel himself joined them onstage to perform “We Didn’t Start the Fire” and “Big Shot.
”The surprise performance marked Joel’s first time back on stage since May 2025, when the singer revealed a “This condition has been exacerbated by recent concert performances, leading to problems with hearing, vision, and balance,” Joel’s team said in a statement at the time. “Under his doctor’s instructions, Billy is undergoing specific physical therapy and has been advised to refrain from performing during this recovery period.
