Billionaire banker Andrew Beal tore down the century-old Cox Mansion in Highland Park, Texas earlier this year. Now, he plans to build a new home on the site.

The more-than-century-old house that was formerly owned by late Dallas businessman Edwin L. Cox Sr. is seen, Friday, Aug. 23, 2024, in Dallas, after it was demolished.. Now, he plans to erect a new home on the site, but he needs the town zoning commission’s approval to build what he wants.The problem: cupolas and other architectural features may only have a maximum height of 55 feet within the property’s zoning district.

“Such an update would benefit homeowners and the community as a whole, ensuring that the town continues to evolve in line with its longstanding reputation for excellence,” Itzhakov addedThe Beaux-Arts style home, which was built in the early 1900s and sat on the corner of Beverly Drive and Preston Road, once belonged to Dallas oilman. He took ownership of the property in the 1970s, but his assets were sold off following his death in November 2020.
