Billionaire backers: Explore the big money behind Joe Biden and Donald Trump
To find the billionaires who are donating to the campaigns of Joe Biden and Donald Trump, we started with data from the Federal Election Commission. Since there are millions of entries, we limited our search to only itemized donations of at least $100. We reviewed addresses and employment information to confirm the identities of donors to the Biden and Trump campaigns, as well as their joint-fundraising committees, which raise money in conjunction with the campaigns.
This tool shows what we found. Red circles indicate a donation to the Trump campaign or its joint fundraising committees. Blue circles indicate a contribution for Biden. The size of the circle indicates roughly how much money the donor, or donor couple, has pumped into the federal political system during the 2019-2020 election cycle, including their Trump and Biden contributions. Itemized donations of at least $100 are counted to reach the total figure; refunds have been subtracted.
