With how unpredictable the news cycle has become, the exercise of looking back and seeing what people actually cared about in any given year can be quite interesting. A useful tool for this is Google's annual Year in Search report, which was released Wednesday morning.
Based on trending searches — which the company defines as the terms that saw high spikes in traffic over a period of time compared to the previous year — for the U.S., Google was able to identify the people, the outfits and the pieces that really made an impact in 2019. Whereas last year, Duchesses dominated the list of top trending searches for celebrity style, the 2019 list was topped by an eclectic mix of folks, ranging from Billie Eilish to Amal Clooney. Then, as far as actual fashion trends go, Google users seemed less obsessed with the runway and more interested in what a VSCO Girl might have in her closet.
