GOP bill would ban undocumented students, citizens of China, other nations from Texas universities
Don Chen, a property owner in Fort Bend County, protests against SB 147 on Monday, Jan. 23, 2023, at Houston City Hall in Houston. âIt will affect many, many guys who are on the path to citizenship,â he said. âItâs just not right that we cannot own a home on the path to citizenship.â He added, âthe Chinese Communist Party does not equal the person coming from China.
But Democrats and other critics call the legislation racist and xenophobic, saying it would only harm law-abiding people hoping to build a life in Texas.
