Legislation nearing a full vote by Pennsylvania 's House of Representatives would allow firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical services personnel to file workers' compensation claims for post-traumatic stress injuries.The legislation would add Post-Traumatic Stress Injury as an eligible claim for first responders filing for worker’s compensation.
O'Mara said without workers' compensation claims being available for first responders suffering from PTSI, many of those struggling with the pressures from responding to incidents that can terrify those experiencing or witnessing them.The issue is particularly important for O'Mara, whose father died by suicide in 2003, after a 25-year career with the fire department in Philadelphia.
