Responding to fans wondering why Dr. Crusher called Commander Riker "Bill" in very Short Treks "Worst Contact," Twitter/X user Ryan Thomas Riddle @ryantriddle cited the original bible for Star Trek: The Next Generation season 1 that stated Riker was originally nicknamed "Bill" instead of Will. The Star Trek: TNG bible was an early description of the character of Commander William Riker, who inherited the designation of "Number One" from the then-abandoned Number One character played by Majel Barrett in Star Trek's original pilot, "The Cage." In TNG season 2, Jonathan Frakes grew a beard that became an iconic part of Will Riker's character. While Riker was a noted ladies' man, he ultimately ony truly loved Troi, and they finally married in Star Trek: Nemesis before starting a family seen in Star Trek: Picard. Riker also gained an identical transporter-created clone, Thomas Riker, who was last seen in Star Trek: Deep Space Nine.
