“Yes, I’m sure there are injustices on both sides in the Middle East , as there are injustices all over the world, but I’m going to be late for work,” Maher said. “Something you protesters on the bridge seem to have the luxury of not having to worry about, which seems kind of privilege-y.”
“You can glue your hands to the street because your hands don’t have to do any work today,” he added in a nod to protesters who used chains and cement toMaher went on, blaming “social justice warriors” for accusing Israel of apartheid while overlooking some of the mistreatment of women and members of the LGBT by some Middle Eastern groups.
“Are you really speaking truth to power?” Maher asked. “Or do you just think you look cool in a keffiyeh?”across the country recently, are therefore “less about the cause” and more about the individuals involved, Maher said. He argued the protests are showing what happens "when activism merges with narcissism" before going on to suggest a series of questions one should ask themselves before engaging in political demonstrations.
“Is the most important thing in my life something I hadn’t even heard of 6 months ago?” he asked. “Do I even know what the f--- I’m talking about?” Maher, an outspoken liberal, has made waves for taking a uniquely centrist viewpoint on many pressing issues.
