Liberal comedian Bill Maher criticized his own party for alienating family members during the holidays due to political differences. On his 'Club Random' podcast, Maher and comedian Jay Leno discussed the late entertainer Sammy Davis Jr. and his famous hug with President Richard Nixon. Leno pointed out how Davis was considered a 'traitor' among Hollywood liberals for his friendship with the Republican president.
Maher agreed, saying, 'It's so funny you mention that because, like today, we live in this time when you're not allowed to have friends from the other side or cross lines politically.' He added, 'This is what I f---ing hate about the left. And they're not going to get me over to the Trump side, which they think they will sometimes, but just the idea that, you know, ‘cut your family off for Thanksgiving if they voted for the wrong guy.’ F--- off, you f---s.' And Sammy – when he hugged Nixon, he was ostracized by the left a lot. That was an early harbinger of that.' Maher expressed similar sentiments on his HBO show 'Real Time' last month following President-elect Donald Trump's victory. He criticized Yale University chief psychiatry resident Dr. Amanda Calhoun for suggesting it was acceptable to cut off relatives who voted for Trump.
