Former Everton CEO Keith Wyness recalls his stint working alongside Bill Kenwright and the friendship that blossomed from that time
Former Everton chief executive Keith Wyness said Bill Kenwright would put Hollywood on hold to discuss football matters as he paid tribute to the club chairman.
His words come as touching messages and stories about Kenwright continue to pour in, with both Liverpool FC and the world of theatre set to mark his passing on Thursday night. “We became friends and we spent a lot of dinners and time together talking about different things in life. Bill had this unshakeable belief he understood Everton fans and what they wanted.
Stars from the arts world, including actor Sir Ian McKellen, joined politicians and sports figures in expressing their sadness after Kenwright’s death was announced on Tuesday. While his career was built in theatre, his first love was the Blues, Wyness said, adding: “I would be in his office late at night and someone like Dame Judi Dench would ring up and he would put her on hold to continue to talk about changes to hospitality. It made me laugh. The club was the most important thing to him.
