Bill Byrge, known for his role as Bobby in the 'Ernest' films, has died at 86. He was employed at the public library in his hometown when he landed roles in commercials that led to his role in the 'Ernest' franchise.

Bill Byrge , known for his role as the quiet but spirited Bobby on a children's TV show and in four of the humorous Ernest films starring Jim Varney , has passed away at the age of 86. Varney initially portrayed Ernest P. Worrell, a naive Southerner with an unseen neighbor named Vern, in local commercials for a Nashville advertising agency starting in 1980.

Byrge, born in Tennessee's Campbell County in September 1938, was employed at the public library in his hometown when he and fellow actor Sartain landed roles in commercials produced by Carden and Cherry, the same ad company behind the Ernest series. They played twin brothers with contrasting personalities; Chuck was boisterous while Bobby remained silent. While pursuing acting, Byrge maintained his position at the downtown Nashville library branch, retiring in 1995 after 27 years of service. He enjoyed considerable popularity at conventions, autograph signings, and school visits in his later years
