A person deprived of liberty at the New Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City tested positive for coronavirus disease 2019 , the Bureau of Corrections reported Thursday. In a statement, BuCor said that the patient was checked at the NBP Hospital on April 17 and was referred to the Research Institute for Tropical Medicine on the same day where he was admitted. BuCor said that contact tracing has been done in the medium security camp since the patient was admitted at RITM.
The prison bureau said that the PDLs identified as having been exposed to the patient were transferred to to the bigger quarantine area at “Site Harry,” where they will be monitored while awaiting to be tested for Covid-19. As of February, there are 29,173 inmates detained at the NBP where 8,046 were residing at medium security camp.
