Every year, they have to make some tough decisions on which teams to put into the field and where to seed teams.The committee made a few seeding mistakes this year, some being more egregious than others.1. Giving North Carolina an 11-seed The most shocking thing in the entire NCAA Tournament was the fact that North Carolina made the field. They were one of the last teams in and will play in the First Four in Dayton, Ohio.North Carolina was just 1-12 in Quad I games this season. It's hard to have a much worse record than that against the best teams on their schedule.Putting them in the field over either West Virginia or Indiana was very surprising. Both of those teams seemed to have better resumes.2. Michigan is seeded too low as a 5-seedWinning the Big Ten Tournament is not an easy thing to do. Winning the Big Ten Tournament in your first year as the head coach of a new program is even harder.That's what Dusty May was able to accomplish. They took down Purdue. Maryland, and Wisconsin to take home the crown.Despite winning one of the toughest conferences in the country, they only received a five-seed. Vanderbilt CommodoresVanderbilt was seen as a bubble team coming into Selection Sunday. They were one of several SEC teams that were holding their breath when the bracket was released.Clearly, the committee had different ideas. Vanderbilt was not as much of a bubble team in their eyes, landing a 10-seed. Instead of having to play in the First Four, they get to skip Dayton and play a very good Saint Mary's team.The Commodores finished the season with three straight losses, including one to a team that is in the First Four, Texas.
