But with the ARL Commission having declared the event up for sale from next year, Melbourne Storm Executive Chairman Matthew Tripp is openly canvassing plans to hold the game at the MCG. The Melbourne Storm supremo argued taking the Grand Final from city to city would create excitement and give the NRL the “opportunity to showcase their product”, telling the Herald Sun the model worked well in the US with the Super Bowl.
“I think the NRL grand final would sell out at the MCG. Melbourne people love big sporting events and would get behind it,” he said.
