“Here,” at least through July 14, is the campus of UNLV, where the Spurs will play at least four NBA Summer League games beginning Friday against Cleveland. “Every time someone is talking to him, he tries to take it in, acknowledges it, and even gives you some feedback in terms of, ‘Oh, I was thinking this,’ or, ‘This is why I did that,’” Johnson said. “At his age, that’s unique, and in a good way.”In September 2021, he surprisingly signed a six-figure deal with Overtime Elite, a fledgling league based in Atlanta for teens with NBA aspirations, rather than attending a prep school in Maine.
Ramasar, who also represents Spurs second-year guard Josh Primo, was thrilled to match Barlow with a team that includes several other 19-year-olds, including Primo and first-round draftees Jeremy Sochan, Malaki Branham and Wesley Blake.After averaging just nine points as a 6-5 sophomore at Dumont, Barlow posted norms of 23.2 points, 12.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks as a junior on his way to earning North Jersey’s 2019-20 High School Player of the Year honors.
OTE organized 27 players into three teams of nine last season that competed against one another and against prep and international teams. In future seasons, the league hopes to grow to six or eight teams and face opponents from the NBA G League, college and perhaps even the NBA, the New York Times reported.
