Big East Commissioner Val Ackerman says the Gavitt Games are done, and adds an extension is in the works on holding the Big East Tournament at Madison Square Garden.

Big East Conference Commissioner Val Ackerman told NJ Advance Media the Gavitt Games are done after this season.

With the Big Ten set to add UCLA, USC, Oregon and Washington next season, it’s possible the Big Ten may go to a 21- or 22-game schedule starting in 2024-25. And if that happens, Big Ten schools would have less flexibility to schedule non-conference battles with leagues like the Big East. One major stumbling block is the fact that the Big Ten will have 18 schools next year, compared to the Big East’s 11.

The Big East still is involved in the Big East/Big 12 Battle for this season and next, and Ackerman said “we will try” to add another league battle.
