Barbara Creecy, South Africa’s enviroment minister, says the government is processing just under 10,000 MW worth of renewable energy projects in South Africa.
South Africa’s government is processing applications for projects to produce 9,789 megawatts of renewable energy, the nation’s environment minister said.
“We are working hard to cut the red tape and get these projects finalized,” Creecy said. “We have reduced our decision making time frames from 107 days to 57 days.” A major constraint to the projects being added to the grid is the lack of adequate transmission infrastructure. Creecy said 15 environmental impact assessments on transmission and environmental infrastructure projects are being considered.
