Big Bear 's beloved bald eagle pair, Jackie and Shadow, are making headlines as two out of their three eggs show signs of hatching. The state's hottest power couple is preparing to welcome twins to their nest, which is perched 145 feet above the forest floor. Jackie and Shadow have captivated the world's attention through a live webcam that offers a continuous stream of their eggs on the verge of hatching.
Sandy Steers, the executive director of Friends of Big Bear Valley, shared the exciting news. She explained that 'pips,' or small holes or cracks in the eggs, indicate that the baby eagles inside are working hard to break free. Steers stated, 'The chick has an egg tooth right at the top of their beak. They have to push that egg tooth against the hard shell and keep working their way around. And apparently since they can hear each other, they kind of encourage each other, and it might happen faster than usual.' Although the third egg hasn't shown any signs of hatching yet, it's only 34 days old and younger than the other two, so another eaglet may make its debut a little later. Jackie and Shadow already have three other eaglets in their family, so this could double their brood.The birthing process is attracting a massive audience to the Friends of Big Bear Valley website, with tens of thousands of people simultaneously watching the nest. Steers believes part of Jackie and Shadow's global popularity stems from their unique personalities and modern-day parenting skills. She remarked, 'They both take turns on the nest, and they both want to be on the nest as much as possible. They will actually do little tricks on each other and fight over 'No, it's my turn!
