The Big 12 will add four new schools this summer: Houston, Cincinnati, UCF an BYU.

LOS ANGELES — Big 12 commissioner Brett Yormark said the delay in the release of the league’s 2023 football schedule has nothing to do with a possible early exit by Texas and Oklahoma.

“Schedule is going to be released hopefully soon,” Yormark told the Houston Chronicle during Saturday’s College Football Playoff media day. “Obviously with four new schools coming in we’re trying to be very diligent about the process.” Yormark previously said at the Big 12 championship game that the schedule would be released in mid-December, a timeline that has since extended into what could be mid-to-late January. That has fueled speculation about a possible early exit by UT and OU for the Southeastern Conference.

“It has nothing to do with Texas and Oklahoma,” Yormark told the Chronicle. “They don’t control our scheduling process. We want to make sure it’s done in the most appropriate way.” Later, Yormark told reporters that UT and OU are committed to remain in the Big 12 through the 2024 season.
