“President Biden and President Yoon will highlight the importance and enduring strength of the ironclad U.S.-ROK alliance as well as the United States’ unwavering commitment to the ROK,” Karine Jean-Pierre said in a statement Tuesday. “The Presidents will discuss our shared resolve to deepen and broaden our political, economic, security, and people-to-people ties.”
The visit marks the 70th anniversary of the U.S.-South Korea alliance and comes amid heightened tensions in the Asia Pacific region.Kim Yo Jong, the influential sister of North Korea’s leader, warned this week that her country is prepared to take “quick, overwhelming action” against the U.S. and South Korea after Washington flew a nuclear capable jet over the Korean Peninsula during a training drill, the Associated Press reported.
