President Biden plans to honor American veterans and their families just one day before the 83rd anniversary of the attack on Pearl Harbor.
President Joe Biden speaks during a ceremony to light the National Christmas Tree on the Ellipse near the White House in Washington, Thursday, Dec. 5, 2024.
Biden will attend a performance of "The Eyes of the World: From D-Day to VE Day" on Friday evening. He will also share prepared remarks at the event. The show tells the story of the final months of World War II in Europe using writings and images of "Ernest Hemingway, Lee Miller, Robert Capa, the 761st Tank Battalion, and a young intelligence officer who would become a novelist.
The show is narrated by historian John Monsky, who developed the work that includes National Archives film and photographs and musical performances. On National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day, we honor the 2,403 service members and civilians who were killed on that tragic December morning 83 years ago. And we recognize the absolute courage of the service members who, in the wake of this painful and unprovoked attack, stood up to defend democracy and stand up to fascism abroad in World War II," Biden wrote in part.
