In the language of climate diplomacy, these new goals are called 'Nationally Determined Contributions' – or NDCs. These commitments from countries aim toward the main goal of the 2015 Paris climate agreement: to limit global heating to 1.5 degrees Celsius (2.7 degrees Fahrenheit) above pre-industrial levels. Scientists say that's needed to avoid some of the worst-case scenarios that come with a hotter climate.of 50 - 52% by 2030, based on the country's 2005 greenhouse gas emission levels. Now Biden is boosting that to 61 - 66% by 2035. 'I'm proud that my Administration is carrying out the boldest climate agenda in American history,' Biden said in a White House video accompanying the announcement. The President continued to highlight jobs created by building offshore wind energy projects and by incentives in his climate-focused Inflation Reduction Act.Trump transition team spokeswoman Karoline Leavitt didn't address the question of NDCs directly, but in an email to NPR said, 'In his second term, President Trump will once again deliver clean air and water for American families while Making America Wealthy Again.'
