President Biden announces a new military aid package for Ukraine as Russia intensifies attacks and battles rage near Kursk.
President Joe Biden announced Monday that the United States will send nearly $2.5 billion more in weapons to Ukraine . This package includes $1.25 billion in presidential drawdown authority, which allows the military to quickly deliver existing weapons, and $1.22 billion in longer-term weapons contracts through the Ukraine Security Assistance Initiative (USAI). Biden stated that all USAI funds have been spent and pledged to use the remaining drawdown money before leaving office.
This aid comes as Russia intensifies attacks on Ukraine's power grid, although Ukraine claims to have intercepted many of the missiles and drones. Meanwhile, intense fighting continues around the Russian border region of Kursk, where Moscow has deployed North Korean troops.
