President Biden honored the late President Jimmy Carter at a state funeral in Washington, DC, on Thursday, hailing the humble Georgia peanut farmer as a principled statesman who reshaped the world with his 'deep Christian faith.' Carter, who died last month at the age of 100, rose from a childhood in a house without running water or electricity in Plains to become a US Navy officer, Georgia's governor and eventually president.
The late president's eldest son Jack Carter and his wife Liz were emotional during the state funeral at the cathedral in Washington. Carter will be laid to rest in a private ceremony in Plains, Ga., beside his wife of 77 years, Rosalynn Carter, who died on Nov. 19, 2023. He died in his birth town on Dec. 29, 2024. Critics have noted the many similarities between the presidencies of Biden and Carter, with both of their terms marked by rampant inflation, escalating conflicts abroad and even charges of family influence peddling.
