Former president Donald Trump announced in a social media post Friday that his campaign accepted a Fox News proposal to host a vice-presidential debate. But when asked if Vice President Harris would appear at that Fox News debate, President Biden’s campaign said Harris had already committed to a debate offer from CBS News. Asked for comment, a Biden spokesperson referred The Washington Post to a statement Wednesday from campaign chair Jen O’Malley Dillon.
Fox News also is ineligible to host this debate, the Biden campaign noted, because it does not meet the campaign’s earlier demand that the vice-presidential debate, like the first presidential debate be hosted by broadcast networks that “hosted a Republican Primary debate in 2016 in which Donald Trump participated, and a Democratic primary debate in 2020 in which President Biden participated — so neither campaign can assert that the sponsoring organization is obviously unacceptable.
