In March, the U.S. government and Microsoft announced that hackers had breached its Exchange email service, compromising the accounts of tens of thousands of users. “We’re concerned that there are a large number of victims,” White House Press Secretaryat the time, warning that the attack, which began in January, “could have far-reaching impacts.” The Chinese government was believed to be responsible, but the U.S. had not formally accused it of the hack until Monday.
