A Bay Area couple created a unique Christmas tree topper inspired by biblical descriptions of angels, resulting in a viral sensation.
During the pandemic, Rev. Kira Austin-Young and her husband, Michael Schupbach, came up with the idea for a unique Christmas tree topper: a biblically accurate angel. Their creation, a pink, blue, and gold-feathered creature with six wings and dozens of eyes, went viral. Austin-Young, associate rector of the Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin in San Francisco, believes the unconventional angel resonates with people in these uncertain times.
She explains that the Bible depicts various types of angels, often described as strange creatures surrounding God’s throne. While their appearance varies, some descriptions mention six wings with eyes or multiple animal heads. Austin-Young finds the Bible’s occasional bizarreness and imaginative depictions intriguing
