Mayor Justin Bibb broke with city precedent Wednesday in commenting on a pending lawsuit with Brook Park, but denies the move was related to negotiations with the Browns. David Petkiewicz, cleveland.comCLEVELAND, Ohio – Mayor Justin Bibb on Wednesday broke with City Hall precedent and issued a public statement on a years-old lawsuit between Cleveland and Brook Park.
Bibb has never issued a similar press release to announce what amounts to a routine step in a city lawsuit, of which there are often dozens at a time. His spokespeople typically tell reporters that the city does not comment on pending litigation.
Cleveland.com asked Bibb’s office why City Hall decided to ignore its own rule of thumb in commenting on the Brook Park lawsuit. Spokeswoman Sarah Johnson said the city spoke out on this case because it didn’t want to cause confusion or concern.
