The head of BHP's Australian operations has defended the mining giant's decision to donate $2 million to the Yes campaign for the Voice. The BHP Australia President remarked that the company’s relationship with traditional owners is an important part of its business. Geraldine Slattery spoke during a retail shareholder question and answer session to discuss the decision. “We recently engaged with many representatives from traditional owner groups and Indigenous businesses … as part of our work in developing our new reconciliation action plan,” Ms Slattery said. “This confirmed to us that Indigenous stakeholders expected BHP to advocate for a Voice, given we operate on traditional lands and work closely with Indigenous owners.”
