The Billboard Global Music Index (BGMI) faced a tough week, declining for the third straight time. While the overall index decreased, K-pop companies like JYP Entertainment and HYBE showed strength. Streaming services remained relatively stable, but companies like SiriusXM and iHeartMedia experienced significant losses. International markets, particularly in Asia, performed better compared to US indexes.

The Billboard Global Music Index (BGMI) experienced a challenging week ending October 10, with only three companies, Spotify , JYP Entertainment, and HYBE, managing to post gains within the 19-company index. The overall index suffered a 1.9% decline, closing at 2,899.73, marking its third consecutive weekly downturn. This downward trend was largely influenced by substantial losses, some exceeding 10%, across various companies within the index.

Despite the overall negative performance, music stocks generally fared better than major U.S. market indexes. The Nasdaq saw a 2.5% decrease, and the S&P 500 fell by 2.4%. Conversely, international exchanges, less impacted by the U.S.-China trade tensions, demonstrated greater resilience. The U.K.'s FTSE 100 rose by 0.7% to 9,427.47. The South Korean KOSPI composite index experienced a significant surge, jumping 1.7% to 3,610.60, and China's Shanghai Composite Index also saw improvement, edging up 0.4% to 3,897.03. Notably, the K-pop companies exhibited the strongest performance within the music sector. JYP Entertainment led the pack with a 2.2% gain, followed closely by HYBE, which saw a 1.9% increase. SM Entertainment managed to keep losses relatively low, with a slight 0.6% decrease. Streaming services, as a group, demonstrated relative stability. Spotify recorded a modest 0.7% gain, increasing its year-to-date growth to 46.9%. Deezer experienced a minor 0.9% decline, closing at 1.16 euros ($1.35), and Netease Cloud Music fell by 1.2% to 253.00 HKD ($32.51). Tencent Music Entertainment saw a 2.0% drop, settling at $22.44. SiriusXM emerged as the week's biggest loser, plunging 10.1% to $20.93, turning a small year-to-date gain into a 6.4% loss for 2025. iHeartMedia followed with a 9.8% fall to $2.59
