ALLACAPAN, Cagayan – Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources-2 (Cagayan Valley) Director Angel B. Encarnacion and the local government unit here inspected the two circular high-density polyethylene fish cage projects at the Silagan small water impounding project in Barangay Silagan here on Thursday, August 24.

BFAR is promoting the use of high-density polyethylene, a strong plastic used as building material for fish cages to achieve an inclusive growth of fish production in Cagayan Valley.

The agency noted that the HDPE fish cage does not corrode, compared to traditional fish cages made of wood or bamboo. The 65-hectare SWIP in Barangay Silagan supplies irrigation water to agricultural lands in nearby areas for aquaculture purposes. The project will be managed and operated by the members of the Nappuaran Small Water Irrigation System Association led by Gilbert Talana.
