.Beyonce is headed to the Smithsonian.
Beyonce attends the European Premiere of"The Lion King" at Odeon Luxe Leicester Square on July 14, 2019 in London, England. that his portrait of Bey, which landed on the cover of "We are delighted to acquire this magnificent portrait of Beyoncé," Leslie Ureña, associate curator of photographs at the Smithsonian, confirmed in a statement to The Institution will reportedly add the portrait to its collection in Washington D.C.
Mitchell made history by becoming the first African-American to shoot a cover for the iconic publication. "A year ago today we broke the flood gates open," he wrote. "Now I’m glad to share this picture is being acquired into the Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery’s permanent collection."See Mitchell's announcement below.
