At the 67th Annual Grammy Awards, Beyoncé won the Best Country Album award for her critically acclaimed project, 'Cowboy Carter,' marking a historic moment as the first Black woman to receive this recognition.
Beyoncé made history at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, becoming the first Black woman to win the prestigious Best Country Album award for her project, Cowboy Carter . The ceremony took place at the Crypto.com Arena in Los Angeles.
During the presentation, Taylor Swift, who was handing out the award, reflected on her own journey, stating, “They say you never forget where you came from, and I will never forget standing here right on this spot almost exactly 15 years ago, accepting the award for best country album. It’s an honor that has gone to great artists that I admire so much, like The Chicks, Johnny Cash, Loretta Lynn, George Strait, Faith Hill, Vince Gill, Alison Krauss and Shania Twain.” The audience erupted in cheers as Beyoncé, accompanied by her husband Jay-Z and daughter Blue Ivy, accepted the award from Swift.Beyoncé expressed her gratitude, stating, “Wow. I want to thank God — oh my God — that I’m still able to do what I love after all these years. I’d like to thank all of the incredible country artists that accepted this album. We worked so hard on it. I think sometimes ‘genre’ is a cold word to keep us in our place as artists. I just want to encourage people to do what they are passionate about and to stay persistent.” The singer also acknowledged her fans, saying, “This wouldn’t have been this album without you.” Cowboy Carter, released in April 2024, was a groundbreaking project that showcased Beyoncé’s versatility and passion for country music. The album featured collaborations with legendary country artists like Dolly Parton and Willie Nelson, while also paying homage to Black country pioneers like Linda Martell. Notably, the album included contributions from contemporary Black country artists such as Shaboozey, Tanner Adell, Brittney Spencer, Tiera Kennedy, and Reyna Roberts, highlighting the rich and diverse talent within the genre. Earlier in the night, Beyoncé made history again by becoming the first Black female artist to win a country Grammy in over five decades, taking home the trophy for Best Country Duo/Group Performance for her collaboration with Miley Cyrus on “II Most Wanted.” This win further cemented Beyoncé’s impact on the music industry, breaking boundaries and paving the way for future generations of artists
