The Bexar County jail has regained compliance with state standards after implementing changes to address issues related to inmate housing and medication distribution.

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office ( BCSO ) says its jail has regained compliance with the Texas Commission on Jail Standards (TCJS) after being flagged for non-compliance in November 2024. The jail faced scrutiny for issues related to inmate housing and medication distribution .

To address these concerns, BCSO implemented several changes, including installing new technology to monitor inmate activity, introducing a plan for accurate medication distribution in partnership with University Health, and creating 48-hour reports to track inmates awaiting housing assignments. The BCSO also conducts internal audits to ensure housing practices align with TCJS rules. Following a 30-day period of implementing these changes and an unannounced inspection by TCJS, the Bexar County jail was deemed compliant once again
