Rebecca Vasquez, 30, died on Sept. 7 after attempting suicide while she was an inmate in the Bexar County Jail.A woman who had been incarcerated at the Bexar County Jail died in a downtown hospital on Wednesday, a little over a week after she attempted suicide in her jail cell, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
The officer alerted others, cut Vasquez down and performed CPR until medical staff took over, according to a statement from the Sheriff’s Office. First responders continued lifesaving measures before Vasquez was taken to the intensive care unit at Baptist Medical Center downtown.Vasquez was pronounced dead at the hospital at 2:01 p.m. Wednesday.
On Sept. 1, Vasquez was issued a personal recognizance bond for her remaining charge, relating to the theft of a vehicle. She was subsequently issued a compassionate release.
