Bexar County Commissioner's Court is looking into the safety at the county courthouse. This comes after a judge for the second probate court, the Honorable Veron
A judge at Bexar County Commissioners Court has voiced concerns about security after a person brought a gun into the courthouse on Monday. This comes after a judge for the second probate court, the Honorable Veronica Vasquez, went to commissioner's court yesterday requesting a “ bulletproof film ” to be added to her door following an incident on Monday.
“There was someone who wanted to bring in a gun, and did bring in a gun, into the courthouse,” said Judge Veronica Vasquez. “The door monitors did a great job yesterday alerting the individual with the gun that he could not proceed into the courthouse with a gun. However, if it was an active shooter situation, my office is the first one there with glass”
The judge also says there was a person with a knife who was arrested outside her door just weeks ago.Bexar County Judge Peter Sakai said each incident needs to be reported to the office of the Court of Administration. He also wanted to understand the process of how the county notes these reports so that everyone is aware.
“I asked that those incidences be recorded,” said Judge Sakai. “I think it important for the whole system to be aware of the continual threats, especially in the judiciary.”Judge Sakai approved Judge Vasquez's request and is working to see where they can fit it into the budget.
