Bexar County Commissioner Justin Rodriguez said the county’s initial purchase of 16 electric vehicles will help determine the feasibility of a larger fleet conversion to electric, to help improve San Antonio’s air quality.Bexar County is in the market for a new ride that’ll help make it easier for everyone to breathe.
Last year, Bexar and Travis counties partnered with the Texas Electric Transportation Resources Alliance to form the South Central Texas Electric Transportation Compact, which includes large employers and educational institutions trying to reduce tailpipe emissions through eco-friendly strategies.The purchase of 16 vehicles is expected to reduce overall emissions in Bexar County by 902 metric tons.
A county working group decided a limited pilot program would be best. Wolff and Commissioner Justin Rodriguez, who co-chairs the Austin-San Antonio compact with Travis County Commissioner Brigid Shea, supported the move as a way to learn how to use EVs effectively.
