In a statement on Thursday the IFP expressed, “grave concern over drug abuse by the youth in South Africa”, saying it can lead to unproductive society if the vice is not instantly corrected. Drug and substance abuse in South Africa continues to wreak havoc and elicit concern from parents, authorities and non-governmental bodies.
The party suggested the implementation of a serious and comprehensive education program on the dangers of drug abuse, which should form a major part of the school curriculum. It said the more than 4,000 social workers, who are presently jobless, could be deployed to schools and drug-abuse hotspots.
