Beloved actress and cultural icon Betty White has died at age 99.
star Betty White, a pioneering comedian and five-time Emmy Award-winning actor, died earlier this morning at her home in Los Angeles, aged 99, TMZWidely lauded as a national treasure, White was best known for her role in—the hugely popular 1980s sitcom about four senior citizens house-sharing in Miami. White played the widowed Rose Nyland, and in 1986 won her third Emmy Award in her very first season playing the naïve and lovable Minnesotan.
. Three years later she was hosting the show by herself and in 1951 was nominated for her first Emmy Award, for Best Actress on Television, the year of the category’s launch., a comedy about a young married couple in which she played the devilishly delightful wife.
, and in 2010, her co-star Sandra Bullock presented her with the Screen Actors Guild Lifetime Achievement Award. “I should be presenting an award to you for the privilege of working in this wonderful business all this time,” she told the audience. “And you still can’t get rid of me.”Here We Go Again: My Life in Television,after 50,000 people rallied for her appearance via Facebook. “That’s more people than I’ve dated,” she quipped onepisode, which also scored her a fifth Emmy Award.
