O’Rourke announced on Tuesday that he’s made Cecile Richards the national finance chair for his campaign for governor. Cecile Richards is the former president of Planned Parenthood Federation of America and the daughter of the late Gov. Ann Richards, who served as governor from 1990 to 1994. “I’ll always be a Texan, and I’m proud to be part of the team that’s going to make sure this campaign has the resources, support, and backing necessary to turn a corner in Texas,” Richards, a Waco native, said. “When Mom ran for governor, she won by building a coalition of people who had been left behind by state government for far too long.
O’Rourke, 49, is running against Republican Gov. Greg Abbott, who is seeking his third term in office. “Cecile has always been a strong champion for labor rights, reproductive rights, civil rights, and voting rights,” said O’Rourke. “We’re fortunate to have Cecile’s leadership on this campaign as we raise the resources necessary to reach the voters who will decide this election.”[email protected]
