The Elder Scrolls VI fans have been left frustrated after a recent update on the game's development status, with no release date in sight. The game was first announced in 2018, and since then, there have been no updates on its development or a potential release date.
This past weekend has been an exciting time for gamers, with multiple gaming events proving that 2027 is set to be absolutely stacked when it comes to video game releases.
From a release date for the brand-new Fable to news on the third installment in the Final Fantasy VII Remake, which we now know to be called Final Fantasy VII Revelation, it has been non-stop action, and those examples are just the tip of the iceberg for the Summer Game Fest. As with any major video game showcase, we all have titles that we wish will make an appearance.
Most of the time, it is Bloodborne, but on this occasion, The Elder Scrolls VI fans congregated in the hopes that they would finally receive an update on the long-awaited sequel. After all, it was back in 2018 that Bethesda first unveiled The Elder Scrolls VI, courtesy of a very brief teaser trailer. Since then, there have been no updates on the game's development, as well as a potential release date.
So much so, that Bethesda head Todd Howard himself finally admitted back in April that The Elder Scrolls VI had been announced too soon by the studio. So, you can imagine the hype that took place during Sunday's Xbox Showcase when one trailer began with the words BETHESDA PRESENTS.
With The Elder Scrolls fans believing that this was finally the moment that they would receive their next official look at The Elder Scrolls VI, excitement soon turned to disappointment once more when it turned out that the trailer was dedicated to The Elder Scrolls Online. Then, the same thing happened with news regarding Fallout 76 and DOOM.
Dedicated to a brand-new questline in the MMORPG, there was no sign of The Elder Scrolls VI once again and, as you can imagine, this soon led to uproar across social media. Over on r/TESVI, users had quite a lot of colorful language to share regarding Bethesda. Yup, fully jumped out of my seat when I saw the Bethesda title, then it was just a FO76 update, then it happened again. It was just a DOOM DLC.
My heart is in tatters. Another said, A simple teaser announcing the location for the game would be just enough to give something small and yet cause so much excitement. PLEASE. AT LEAST GIVE US THAT.
IT'S WHAT WE DESERVE. Over on X/Twitter, the same sentiment was shared, with one user posting, BESTHESDA PRESENTS, and it's the worst s*it you've ever seen instead of being Elder Scrolls 6. Others agreed, with another fan sharing, Eight years since that 36 second teaser. EIGHT.
Todd Howard has been saying 'it's in development' since some of us were in school. The audacity of every other announcement in the meantime. It is indeed a frustrating time for The Elder Scrolls VI fans who have been waiting well over a decade since the last installment, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, was released.
However, we can only hope that this massive delay means that the game will be incredible when we finally get our hands on it
