At a ceremony held Mar. 15, Retired Maj. Robert Joseph Hoffman was honored for his service to his community, state, and country as the Bethel Readiness Center was dedicated in his name.

“He got a letter in the mail saying ‘Report to the army’ and that’s what he did,” Saxe said. “He puts people above what he sees in the mirror.” The result of the training, Hoffman says, has led to career opportunities that give back to rural areas — medics have become village health aids, while aviators have gone on to become bush pilots and mechanics.
Hoffman said he was honored that Maj. Gen. Saxe led the ceremony, calling him a good friend. It was at the same readiness center nearly one year ago that Hoffman had the privilege of pinning a new rank on the General during a promotion ceremony.
