Experts at ZOE Science and Nutrition have explained when exactly people should exercise for long-term health benefits
A health expert has revealed the optimum time to exercise to burn fat - and what he says may surprise you. Speaking to Jonathan Wolf on the latest episode of the ZOE Science and Nutrition podcast, University of Bath professor Javier Gonzalez explained when it is best to get your body moving if you're hoping to melt away those calories.
However, he stressed: "What we do have evidence for is that the timing of your exercise can have really important health effects in other ways. He continued: "Most of the sugar in our blood comes from the carbohydrates that we've eaten and they're broken down in our stomach and our intestine and then this sugar - often called blood glucose - is moving around in our blood waiting to be either used or stored away.
"And potentially avoid some of the undesirable effects with very high glucose or blood sugar excursions." The professor then explained blood sugar usually peaks at about 30 to 60 minutes after a meal research on this has found that doing exercise within the first hour so - 30 to 45 minutes after a meal - can efficiently blunt these glucose surges."
