I was rewarded with shredded chicken leg meat suspended in a thick, richly-flavored broth, but the real treasure was the pillowy homemade dumplings — the kind that are rolled out and cut by hand. Almost sweet but not sugary, the dumplings offered comfort only soul food can give. Owner Kevin Winston wouldn’t share the magic ingredient, so I’ll chalk it up to pure, sweet love. For $12.95, it comes with two sides, like the perfectly simple collard greens, candied yams, mac and cheese or okra gumbo.
