In another disappointing development for physical media collectors, Best Buy has confirmed it will be ceasing the say of Blu-rays and DVDs.
Best Buy has confirmed that it will be exiting the physical media business for movies and TV in early 2024. While Blu-rays and DVDs used to be a prominent way to watch movies and TV shows, the rise of streaming and VOD platforms has seen the market decline steadily for almost two decades. Many stores still have physical media sections, but these sections have shrunk significantly from what they once were.

While physical media versions of movies and TV shows will no longer be sold, the company will be maintaining the sale of physical copies of video games for the time being.
“To state the obvious, the way we watch movies and TV shows is much different today than it was decades ago. Making this change gives us more space and opportunity to bring customers new and innovative tech for them to explore, discover and enjoy.”
