Bersatu leader slams Kelantan local council over fine for ‘indecent clothing’ FMTNews FMTEng
It was reported earlier today that a 35-year-old business owner was issued a notice by the Kota Bharu Municipal Council for wearing a t-shirt and shorts in a public place.
Sasha Lyna Abdul Latiff, the deputy chairman of the party’s legal and constitution bureau, said the council had “no power to regulate clothing or morality”. “Section 102 of the Local Government Act only permits the council to make by-laws pertaining to ‘health, safety and well-being’,” she said in a statement.
MPKB president Rosnazli Amin was quoted as saying that the woman committed an offence under 34 of the Business and Industrial Trade By-Laws 2019, which states that non-Muslim business owners and their non-Muslim employees must wear “decent clothes”.
