LEEDS, Utah —Trooper Mike Alexander with Utah Highway Patrol told 2News that crews responded to the Leeds area at milepost 22 of Interstate 15 on reports of a fire affecting the roadway around 10:30 a.m. Oct. 29.
The blaze - dubbed "the Berry Fire" - reportedly started along the Interstate and eventually expanded over the roadway due to high winds, sparking other small fires in the process.Authorities stated that four structures have been threatened while one was evacuated. Crews have reportedly stopped the spread of the fire and are now working to fully extinguish the flames.
Trooper Alexander said that northbound Interstate 15 was shut down while westbound was experiencing lane reductions. The highway has since reopened.Motorists were advised to avoid the area.
