Berea City School District Treasurer/CFO Jill Rowe projects deficit spending beginning in fiscal year 2025.

presented the May update of the Five-Year Forecast during the May 13 Board of Education meeting, projecting deficit spending beginning in fiscal year 2025.

“As you can see, we’ve got a big chunk to work on to get that deficit spending down,” Rowe told the board. While she reiterated the district “does have some work to do on deficit spending,” she added that “the forecast looks encouraging at this point.”Total expenditures are predicted to increase through FY28, some of which can be attributed to discontinuation of the federalprogram instituted during the COVID-19 pandemic. The district must maintain cash on hand of $8.5 million to $9 million to meet its cash balance policy. Rowe’s projections show the district exceeding that requirement through FY28.
